Strengthening Volunteering in North Northamptonshire

Goal 17 commissioned to lead new capacity-building initiative

We’re delighted to announce that Goal17 has been commissioned to deliver a new volunteering and capacity-building project in North Northamptonshire. This project will support local voluntary and community organisations to strengthen their volunteer programmes—making volunteering more accessible, more impactful, and more sustainable across the area.

Over the coming months, we’ll be working closely with 24 community and voluntary organisations, particularly those supporting children, young people, and families. Our goal is to help them recruit and retain volunteers, co-design meaningful roles, and access the tools and training they need to thrive.

This project is part of a broader investment in Family Hubs in the area, aiming to provide joined-up, community-based support to local families. Goal 17 will be supporting this vision by helping local organisations build strong, inclusive volunteer-led services that can grow and adapt to meet community needs.

What we’ll be doing:

• Running discovery calls with each organisation to understand their current needs, challenges, and opportunities.

• Offering practical support in areas such as volunteer role design, safeguarding, onboarding, and training.

• Recruiting at least 75 new volunteers to support local services, with a focus on inclusive volunteering that works for everyone—from young mums and students to people with lived experience.

• Supporting DBS checks and providing safeguarding training, where needed.

• Creating shared resources like a Volunteer Charter and Good Practice Toolkit, shaped with input from the organisations we support.

We’ll also be building lasting infrastructure—helping organisations connect, learn from each other, and access digital tools and training via the Goal 17 Learning Platform. Volunteers will be able to sign up, access training, and track their impact all in one place.
