Goal 17 and National Citizen Service (NCS) Join Forces to Empower 150 Underserved Young People

Oct 28, 2024

New Nationwide Mentoring Programme to Build Skills, Support Community Action, and Transform Lives

We are thrilled to announce a partnership with the National Citizen Service (NCS) to mentor 150 underserved young people aged 16-17. Running from October 2024 to March 2025, this initiative will provide vital one-on-one mentoring to empower young people, build resilience, and support community change.

This partnership comes at a crucial time, offering young people the support they need to navigate the challenging transition into adulthood. Through mentorship, Goal 17 and NCS are committed to developing skills, boosting confidence, and empowering participants to overcome barriers and unlock their full potential.

More than Just Mentoring It’s About Transforming Communities

A key feature of this programme is the Community Action Framework, a structured six-session journey where mentors and mentees collaborate to identify and achieve a community action goal. Whether it’s organising a local event, volunteering with a charity, or launching an awareness campaign, the framework helps young people make a real impact while developing essential life skills and a sense of responsibility.

“We believe that every young person has the potential to make a difference, but sometimes they just need a little guidance and support to unlock it. This partnership with the NCS is about more than just mentoring, it’s about empowering young people to see themselves as changemakers in their own communities. By providing them with a framework, a mentor, and a platform to take action, we’re helping them build confidence, resilience, and a sense of purpose that will last a lifetime,” said Fran Boorman, Founder of Goal 17.

A Nationwide Call for Mentors

Goal 17 is actively recruiting volunteers from across England who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people. No mentoring experience is required, just a willingness to listen, guide, and inspire. Mentors will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support, gaining valuable skills while making a lasting difference.

“This is an incredible opportunity to give back and be a part of something truly meaningful. The connections we build with these young people are life-changing, not just for them but for us as mentors too,” said Rachel Newell, a current mentor.

Partnering with Schools and Youth Organisations

By partnering with Goal 17, schools and youth organisations can directly impact the lives of underserved young people. The programme is specifically looking to help young people overcome barriers such as discrimination, mental health struggles, and poor school attendance. Goal 17 offers students the opportunity to gain mentorship, set goals, and make a difference in their communities while enhancing your organisation’s commitment to youth development.

Join Us in Empowering the Next Generation

Goal 17 and NCS invite individuals, organisations, and communities to join this transformative movement. By participating, you can provide young people with the support they need to overcome challenges, build resilience, and create bright futures. This is a unique opportunity for you to make a real, lasting difference in your local community.
