👼🏽Holding Her Baby Was Just the Start—What She Did Next Spoke Volumes 💖

Yesterday, during a discussion with some of the young people we support through our mentoring programme, I experienced a moment that will stay with me for a long time. One of the young women, a care leaver, arrived with her beautiful 5-month-old baby girl. For many young people who have grown up in care, the journey to becoming a parent is particularly challenging. Without examples of consistent, nurturing parenting or the guidance of a grandparent, finding their own way can be daunting.

As we talked, she handed me her baby to hold—a moment filled with trust. But what touched me most was when she asked if she could take a photo of me holding her daughter. She explained that she has been capturing photos of every person who holds her baby and displaying them on her daughter’s bedroom wall. “So she will always know she is loved by many,” she said. 💕📸

This gesture was simple but profound. It reminded me that, for care leavers, building a community is a vital part of giving their children the love and security that they themselves may have missed. And for those of us who can give a bit of our time, whether through mentorship or support, the impact extends far beyond the immediate moment.

Imagine what your experience, advice, and a little bit of your time could mean to a young parent who didn’t grow up with that built-in network. The smallest act of kindness, like holding a baby or being a mentor, can create a ripple effect of love and reassurance.

Sometimes, it's the moments we don't expect that show just how much a community can lift up a parent—and their child—towards hope. 🌟
