The shortlist was announced in the Financial Times on the 4th September recognising some of the most impactful companies across the UK. Goal 17 was named amongst companies such as Legal & General Group, Lululemon, IHG Hotels, Amazon, Dyson, Sky, HSBC, EDF Energy, USB and Toyota. Being recognised alongside such significant companies emphasises the importance of this achievement. We take immense pride in this accomplishment, as it highlights the vital role that Goal 17 plays in addressing social mobility.
Many young people who leave the care system find themselves at a disadvantage in a society where opportunity often depends on one's background. Care leavers are more susceptible to problems such as homelessness, unemployment, and mental health disorders due to limited resources and support systems. By providing these young people with support and guidance, the Care Leaver Mentoring program aims to change this narrative.
We are honoured to be recognised by such a prestigious awards program and are grateful for the many mentors who have dedicated their time to giving life-changing support to young care leavers. Founder, Fran Boorman, would like to take this opportunity to thank all our incredible volunteer mentors, alongside all the organisations who sponsor and support our work. Each one of them becomes a beacon of hope and a champion of change, contributing to creating meaningful social cohesion.
We know that so many people want to make a positive impact in their local communities, and our program offers a unique opportunity to do so. If you’d like to be part of the change by mentoring a young person or sponsoring our program, please visit careleavermentoring.co.uk for more information.
