In this role you will be ensuring that people are not too restricted in their day to day lives and that there have been no changes for that person. We often think that everyone has someone looking out for them but that isnโ€™t always the case. This role provides support for people in with a DOLS in place. A DOLS is a deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding meaning the person you support is unable to leave of their own free will. A DOLS is put in place to protect individuals from harm or abuse.
The people you may visit will be receiving care, are vulnerable and often have communication difficulties, for many reasons such as dementia, learning disabilities or difficulties following a stroke or other physical conditions. You will try to understand the person you are supporting and encourage everyone involved in their care and support to see the 'whole person'.

As an RPR you are an independent person, not a friend or a family member so you are there solely for that person. In this role you get to build up a rapport not only with the person you are supporting but also the home. This type of Advocacy support usually lasts for around 12 months but visits are only once every 6-8 weeks.

Skills & qualities required:
In this role being friendly and approachable is a must. You also need to be confident to ask care home staff questions about the person you are supporting and feel able to query and raise any concerns you may have with the home. You will have, or be willing to learn, basic computer literacy skills in order to log your contact / work on our database system.

We continuously recruit to this role. We provide a DBS check and in-person and online training in all aspects of the role.
