Youth Mentor volunteers would support the service users age 9-26yrs in a person-centred way, tailoring to the needs of the individual. This may be through practical, social and/or emotional support. Volunteers work one to one or with support staff delivering groups to individuals who may be experiencing a lack of confidence, social isolation, anxiety and/or lifestyle issues such as challenges maintaining their weight. The volunteer will be able to listen and understand the needs of the individual; working with them either on a one-off basis of typically up to 3 months or assist the team in empowering people to develop the knowledge and skills they need to make changes to their wellbeing and/or access vital services in their community. Specifically, our wellbeing volunteers may:
• Assist in the delivery of group programs both remotely and face to face across our services
• Support young people and their families to create and work through personalised plans to make positive changes to their health & wellbeing. This may be as an extension to the work they have already done with ONSIDE staff.
• Research specific support for service users and their families that will help them make changes to and improve their wellbeing. This may be through supporting service users to:
o Understand technology and how to navigate support online
o Provide motivational for those lacking confidence to attend group sessions (confidence building)
• Provide support to those going through assessments for benefits such as Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Carers’ Allowance (CA) .
• Offer information, advice and support such as signposting to local and national groups, charities and more
• Carrying out remote calls to obtain feedback about our wellbeing services to aid our understanding of the service user journey and support the evaluation of our work
