Here at Goal 17, we run mentoring and volunteering programmes that transform lives all across the UK.
We believe everyone deserves the chance to feel valued, supported, and hopeful about the future - no matter their background or circumstances. We’re dedicated to providing mentoring and support to people experiencing disadvantage, particularly young people in care.
We are delighted to be working with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to support their Independent Volunteer service. Being an IV is an incredibly rewarding role that also comes with a lot of responsibility. These resources offer an overview of what’s involved, from the application process to the training you’ll receive, and the level of commitment required.

By Volunteering With Goal 17 you will get access to:
APPLICATION
First, you’ll fill in an application form. This helps us learn about your interests, your experience, and what’s drawn you to the Independent Volunteer role.
INTERVIEW
This is a thorough and important part of the process. We’ll talk about your background, your motivations, and your expectations about being an IV, to make sure this role is the right fit for you.
REFERENCES
After the interview, we’ll ask for references from people who know you well, and we’ll carry out a DBS check. This is standard for anyone working with young people and helps keep everyone safe
MATCHING
When your training is finished, we’ll carefully match you with a young person. We take time to get this right, looking at your interests and personalities to help set the stage for a positive, lasting relationship.
ONGOING SUPPORT
Being an IV is a big commitment, so you’ll have support from our team at every stage of the journey. We’re here to make sure you feel prepared, supported, and ready to make a difference.
